8th Grade End of the Year Activities

The 8th-grade team would like to share our plans for the end year, to help celebrate our promoting 8th-graders. Events are listed with more detail below. Covid Protocols, including masks wearing, will be enforced.   Events Include:

Students will be wearing the t-shirt as part of their end-of-the-year uniform for our two field trips. The t-shirt was designed by an 8th grader, and will have each student’s name printed on the shirt.  Students are required to wear the t-shirt as part of their end-of-the-year uniform for our two field trips.

We ask for your help in making this last week of 8th-grade a spectacular one. Most of the costs for the activities have been covered through tax credit and donations and we would like to thank all the 8th-grade teachers who contributed!  We are still in need of a few items. Event times are subject to change. 

Friday, May 21, 2021: 8th-grade Promotion Dance 6-9 PM (chaperones welcomed)

  • Cost – $5.00 - see Mrs. Snell for dance tickets
  • All school equipment must be turned in before the dance. 
  • Dress code - The dress code is dress or pants, no shorts or jeans. Shirts must have collars. Dresses must be finger-tip length or longer.  Dresses must have straps at least three fingers wide OR students must wear a sweater/shrug for the duration of the dance. Students should avoid showing cleavage. There are no restrictions on the types of shoes that may be worn. This is the same dress code as for the promotion ceremony. 
  • Please plan to pick up your student from the dance promptly at 9 pm. We have to keep some of our hourly staff on duty until the building is emptied; your punctuality will help us keep costs down.
  • Needed donations & help - food, drinks, paper products, and volunteers to serve food & chaperone

Monday, May 24, 2021- (Attire: 8th-grade promotion t-shirt or school polo, shorts or jeans allowed)

    • Tompkins Park/Picnic 9:00 – 12:00 (Buses leave school  at 830 and return by 1230) 
      • Lunch 11:15-11:45 (Picnic, Culver’s, lunch at the park)
      • Please wear hats and bring sunscreen
    • Derby Car build 12:15 – 2:00 in the 8th-grade pod (in homeroom, build, paint, and decorate)
  • Cost included in activities fees

Tuesday, May 25, 2021 - (Attire: 8th-grade promotion t-shirt or school polo, shorts or jeans allowed)

    • Movies @ Reel Time Theater 9:00-11:30 (Buses load at 830 and return by 1230) 
      • Snacks provided - students will get a drink and popcorn.
      • Students may bring money to purchase other snacks.
      • Need help – two volunteers, 30 minutes before the movie, at 8:30 am)  to fill popcorn bags and drinks
  • Cost included in activities fees
    • Pizza Lunch Party 12:20-12:50 in the 8th-grade pod
      • Need donations – paper products, packaged cookies, and packaged drinks to accompany pizza
    • Derby Car build (finish) 12:50 – 1:20
  • Cost included in activities fees
  • Promotion practice 1:20-2:00 

Wednesday, May 26, 2021 (Attire: 8th grade may wear their grade shirt and uniform bottoms)

  • Derby races/Field day (in the morning before lunch)
    • Please wear hats and bring sunscreen
  • 8th-grade year, promotion, Slide show - 12:15 - 12:45 in the 8th-grade pod
  • Yearbook signing – (in the 8th-grade pod in the afternoon)
    • Yearbook sale - the cost of purchasing your child’s 8th-grade memories at CSMS is only $15.00.

Thursday, May 27, 2021

  • Promotion Slide show 8:00 - 1030 in CSMS main entryway 
  • 8th Grade Promotion 9:00-10:00
    • The dress code is the same as it was for the 8th-grade dance, see description above

Parents can sign their newly promoted, 9th-grade, students out after the promotion ceremony.

As a reminder, per policy, students can participate in these activities only if they have passing grades in all classes.  A passing grade is a D or higher.  If your student does not have a D or higher in all classes, they will not be allowed to participate in field trips.  

“The eligibility criterion for extracurricular participation shall be a passing grade in all classes in which the student is enrolled.”

Students with behavior referrals may lose the privilege to attend some of all of the planned activities. 

Please note:  no refunds will be provided regardless of the reasons for not attending.
