About Student Council
The purpose of the student council is to give students an opportunity to develop leadership by organizing and carrying out school activities and service projects. In addition to planning events that contribute to school spirit and community welfare, the student council is the voice of the student body. Applications are available throughout August, every year. Officers are selected and voted into office by their peers. officers
Applications are available in the front office and with Mrs. Ortiz. Applications must be received by August 11th. Officers will be selected by August 11th. All students interested in running for Student Council office must see Mrs. Ortiz by August 7th.

Meetings:
Club meetings are every Monday at 7:30am-7:50am in Mrs. Ortiz's classroom (#201). If the Monday falls on a holiday and/or if classes are cancelled the meeting is cancelled. We will only meet on other days of the week if the club has an urgent topic to vote for. All members may attend the weekly meetings. Officers MUST attend ALL activities and meetings. If officers stop attending/participating their position will default to the next runner up after 2 missed absences.
Volunteer Hours:
All members/officers are required to volunteer in club activities a total of 20 hours per year and at least 10 hours per semester to remain active.
Concession Stand:
Student Council members run the concession stand to support the CSMS sport teams and to fundraise throughout the year. Members will take turns volunteering during sport events. The hours of operation will be from 3:30pm-5pm. Students who sign up to volunteer need to make parental pick-up arrangements. Parents are welcome to volunteer.

Dances and Activities:
Per District Policy (JJB-R) Students Social Events- School sponsored dances for students in grades 6th, 7th, and 8th will be held at the discretion of the principle. The dress code will be informal and in good taste. ONLY current CSMS students may attend dances and activities sponsored at school.
Dances may be sponsored throughout the school year by various clubs, including Student Council. Dates and times for dances may vary. Dances are earned activities. Students may be removed from or lose the opportunity to attend a dance due to behavioral or discipline issues.
Students must attend at least 3 class periods to participate in any extracurricular program scheduled for the same day.
